After passing over western Cuba as a category 3 hurricane, Ian made landfall near Fort Myers, Florida on September 28 as a category 4 with maximum sustained winds of around 150mph. The storm sustained hurricane force winds throughout its path across central Florida, strengthened over the Atlantic ocean, and made second landfall in South Carolina as a category 1 with 70mph winds. 1,500,000 customers were still without power in Florida two days later, and 33 deaths had been reported.
